The LAUGHING FREEMEN are:
Danny Banfield, Greg Pretty, John Brennan, Pete Davison
Nova Scotia's most refreshing cover band, the Laughing Freemen
respectfully and magnificently perform the right mix of rock and pop gems,
selected specifically for your event/venue.
Four outstanding musicians have found each other - after decades of honing their crafts in genres from rock to pop, funk to punk, and jazz to blues -
bringing together the right personalities and musicianship to properly pay homage to the world of amazing songs and artists these giddy minstrels admire.
Literally rising from the ashes of the North End Pub Jam in 2007, the Laughing Freemen are a feast of pop music history and nostalgia, presented in a show other cover bands only wish they could emulate.

DANNY BANFIELD

Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and currently residing across the harbour in the city of Dartmouth, Danny also spent many of his formative years in the seaside community of Indian Harbour, just this side of Peggy's Cove. It is this unique blend of “city” schooling and “country” nurturing that has served as inspiration to Danny in his 20-some years of singing, performing, songwriting and recording. Initially as a member of The Luv Handles, Danny has gone on to perform as a solo artist, as a host of various regular "jams" in metro, as an event promoter/producer, and as an engineer/producer of recordings for local artists. Dan's "day job" with Long & McQuade further broadens the scope of his musical capabilities. Currently, as the lead singer for The Laughing Freemen, Danny is the frontman of this crazy collective of like-minded minstrels.

GREG PRETTY

Newfoundlander Greg Pretty has been playing guitar and singing since childhood, with his father as his first teacher and influence. Greg believes in a producer's approach to the guitar.  "What is the overall sound required?"  "Where is my place in this song" These are questions that inform his playing. Greg has played guitar with his family, as a solo performer, in a variety of bands (including Gerry and the Donors, Judy Puts Her Foot Down, and the Carol Ritchie Band), and on countless recordings. Greg and Carol Ritchie are also the nucleus ofTom Collins, a cocktail band playing jazz/lounge twists on rock/pop classics.

JOHN BRENNAN

Originally hailing from the province of Quebec,  John has called Halifax home since 1987. Self taught, John took up the bass at about 14 to play in a band with some friends and never looked back.    Since moving to Halifax,  John has played with several bands, mostly on the blues circuit,  as well as subbing on many occasions. A groove-oriented player, John’s musical goals are quite simple – “to play good music, entertain people, and have fun! “,  in any order. When not playing with the Laughing Freemen, John plays with the blues/classic band The Sidemen, as well as Tom Collins, a cocktail band playing jazz/lounge twists on rock/pop classics..

PETE DAVISON

From Truro, NS, Peter Davison has been a professional musician for the last 20 years. A graduate of the ST. F. X. U. jazz program, Davison combined this and earlier rock influences as guitarist in the band hu noo. After releasing two albums and touring with hu noo, this musical diversity continued as a solo and ensemble guitarist with Norwegian and Princess Cruise lines. During time off from contracts at sea, Davison remained guitarist for hu noo and performed with Duane Andrews. Recently placing 2nd in Canada in the BOSS Loop Station 2009 Championships, Pete can be seen Fridays at Brussels Restaurant in Halifax, performing as the Duke of Loops. He is also employed as a solo guitarist in Halifax, and writes and plays drums and guitar with Van Roode.
